Competition Rules and Guidelines


The competition runs from April 6 2011 to September 16  2011.  All submissions must be received electronically by 5.00pm on September 16 2011. The competition is open to all secondary students in Australian schools.

TO ENTER: You must make a film of up to 3 minutes in length and (1) complete the Entry Form and Terms & Conditions forms at the bottom of this page, (2) upload your film to your YouTube channel (instructions here), (3) email the URL of your film to online@sharkisland.com.au.

You will be able to submit your film here from April 26th. For full instructions, see the Entry Fom below.

We will then view your film and the adjudicating committee will select the winners. There is no limit on the number of entries but each film can only be submitted once. There will be 15 Finalists selected from entries.

PRIZES: All prize money is paid to the school. First prize $7000, Runner Up $4000, all remaining finalists receive $1000. There is one Audience Choice prize of $1000. Winners will be notified in November 2011.

RIGHTS: By submitting your film to THE OASIS : HOMELESS SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2011, you grant the Promoter a free non-exclusive license to exercise all rights in perpetuity throughout the world in your film, as well as all other material provided by you to the Promoter at any time.

COPYRIGHT: Your work must only include original material created by you.  Any materials including any words, art, music, photographs, sound recordings or footage that is not created by you, must have all rights cleared and secured.

DO NOT use other people’s material if you don’t have their permission or if they have said no. 

You must also have secured written permissions and releases from each of the contributors who worked on or appeared in the film, for a non-exclusive license for worldwide use in perpetuity.

PRIVACY:  All information such as names, ages and contact details gathered for the administration of this competition will be used only for that purpose, and will not be used for any other means without your consent.

CONTENT: No pornographic content or extreme violence. Entries which include content deemed to be offensive by the Promoter will be disqualified at the Promoter’s discretion.

WHAT TO DO NEXT:

  1. We suggest you watch THE OASIS DOCUMENTARY

  2. We suggest that you read the curriculum resource which will help facilitate your learning around your film

  3. Produce a short film that is no longer than THREE minutes in length.
